Therapy Basics
Is asking for help a sign of weakness?
Not at all. Asking for help is a sign of strength.
Therapy isn’t about fixing what’s “wrong” — it’s about understanding yourself, developing tools, and finding new ways to move forward.
How is therapy different from talking to friends/family?
Friends and family offer support and care.
Therapists bring training, objectivity, and evidence-based tools — and provide a confidential, judgment-free space to explore the harder parts of life.
Does therapy replace medication?
Not necessarily. For some people, medication and therapy work best together.
Medication helps stabilize symptoms, while therapy helps you understand and manage them long-term.
Sessions, Duration & Participation
How does therapy work?
Sessions are shaped around your goals and pace.
They may include reflection, skill-building, and curiosity — and sometimes small exercises between sessions to help you practice what you learn.
How many sessions will it take?
Every person’s path is unique. Some find progress in just a few sessions; others continue for several months or longer.
It depends on your goals, consistency, and life circumstances.
What can I do to get the most out of therapy?
Show up consistently. Be open and honest. Practice skills between sessions.
Small, steady efforts create lasting change.
