LICENSED THERAPIST

Patrick Reilly

Practical, Supportive Online Therapy for Adults in Michigan and Florida

You may know something needs to change and still feel unsure how to make that change last. Anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, or ongoing stress can leave you feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, or disconnected from the person you want to be.

I help adults understand what keeps pulling them back into the same reactions, build skills that fit real life, and practice different ways of responding when things get difficult.

WAYS WE CAN WORK TOGETHER

Individual Therapy and Recovery Support

Some people come to therapy because anxiety, trauma, depression, anger, or relationship stress has become difficult to manage. Others want support with substance use or recovery. The work is shaped around what matters most to you.

Individual Therapy

For anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, emotional regulation, relationship stress, grief, low self-esteem, and difficult life transitions.

Substance Use & Recovery

For substance related concerns, relapse prevention, recovery support, and understanding the emotions or situations that can pull you off course.

HOW I APPROACH THERAPY

I Look at What Keeps the Pattern Going

My work is practical and structured, but I do not treat symptoms as if they happen in isolation. Anxiety, anger, shutdown, avoidance, or substance use often become ways of managing something that feels overwhelming, threatening, or difficult to name.

I draw from attachment informed therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy, and principles from recovery work. We use what fits what you are facing rather than forcing every concern into one model.

IN SESSION, THAT OFTEN MEANS

Notice the Pattern and the Trigger

We slow down what happens before the familiar reaction, urge, or coping strategy takes over.

Understand What Keeps It Going

We look at the thoughts, emotions, habits, and circumstances that reinforce the pattern.

Practice a More Effective Response

We identify realistic ways to respond differently and build skills you can use outside of therapy.

You don't have to have everything figured out before we begin.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

Practical Support Without Judgment

I aim to be calm, direct, and engaged in sessions. I will listen closely, help you organize what is happening, and challenge patterns that are no longer helping without treating you as the problem.

Collaborative and responsive to your goals

Straightforward without making you feel judged

Structured enough to turn insight into action

Calm, steady, and down to earth

WHY THIS WORK MATTERS TO ME

Change Needs to Work Outside the Therapy Room

Much of my work has involved helping adults who want their lives to be different but feel pulled back into familiar reactions, habits, or coping patterns. I have learned that lasting change rarely comes from pressure, shame, or simply being told what to do.

My experience with substance use concerns and recovery has reinforced the importance of meeting people with respect while still being honest about what is not working. I bring that same balance to all of my work: support and accountability, insight and practical action, and steady progress rather than perfection.
